The global organization Right to Play, founded by Johan Olav Koss protect, educate and empower children to rise above adversity using the power of play. The organization wanted to invite to their first ever charity event in Norway at Hotel Bristol in Oslo.
How do you raise money in a fun and effective way? True to Right to Play’s main values, the power of play, Norwegian sports athletes such as alpine ski racer Aksel Lund Svindal, cross-country skier Hans Christer Holund and competitive rower Birgit Skarstein contributed as ambassadors for the event. It started with an online auction two weeks prior to the event where activities and private lessons with the athletes were offered up for bid as well as art objects and cooking lessons amongst many more. It was even possible to buy a seat at the ambassadors table! Most of them were sold to the highest bidder before the main event, remaining only four services to be sold in a live auction on the night of the event. Comedian Nils-Ingar Aadne was the auctioneer and the host for the night. The Norwegian singer Sondre Lerche made sure the evening started off beautifully and Øystein Greni finished it off with a Big Bang.
In total Right to Play Norway raised 1, 4 million NOK during their first fundraiser event in Norway. The online auction kept on going after the main event to sell the last remaining objects and activities. The event made people unite for children’s rights, their future and the importance of play while raising awareness for the organizations work in fun and social surroundings.
